Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique (ART) is a hands on therapy designed specifically to treat sore muscles and damaged tissues. Fibrous adhesions are produced in an injury or when a muscle is deprived of oxygen. The adhesions act like tiny dabs of glue sticking to muscle fibers and between connective tissues, preventing the sliding movements that normally occur between healthy tissues. Adhesions limit muscle or joint movement and can create abnormal or painful motion. Adhesions to a nerve can cause numbness, tingling, or radiating pain.
Who can benefit from ART?
Virtually everyone can benefit from ART. World-class, professional, and amateur athletes recognize this technique as a successful way of treating and managing soft tissue injuries. In addition, people in all types of work environments can suffer from sprains, strains, and repetitive stress injuries that can be effectively treated by ART.
What types of symptoms can ART treat?
ART is a state-of-the-art soft tissue approach that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, ITB syndrome, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. Spinal Strengthening using MedX
One of the primary emphases of our clinic is core stabilization and isolated spinal strengthening. Our clinic utilizes MedX machines to effectively isolate specific muscles of the back and neck. They have been clinically proven to be effective in the treatment of chronic back and neck pain and they have been shown to help people avoid surgery even if they were already considered surgical candidates. The complete training program is designed to maximize tissue repair, break scar tissue, and strengthen the primary muscles involved in spine stabilization. This is important both in treating injuries, as well as preventing injuries from occurring in the future. For more information on MedX, please visit: http://www.medxonline.com.
Other therapeutic exercises are taught in our clinic including core stabilization exercises with fitness balls, rotator cuff exercises with thayer bands, and proprioceptive activities with wobble boards.
Chiropractic Manipulation
There are many proven benefits of spinal manipulation. Manipulation can reduce pain, increase range of motion, and help restore proper neurological function of the body. Scientific guidelines recommend a trial period of chiropractic manipulation for the majority of back and neck conditions and, in light of the recent understandings of the side effects of the majority of pain relief medications, manipulation may be the safest treatment for musculoskeletal pain management. Physiotherapy Modalities
Along with myofascial release, exercise therapy, and other techniques that fall into the category of physical therapy, the Boise Spine Center offers some therapeutic devices know as "physiotherapy modalities". These modalities include ultrasound, electric stimulation, TENS, hydrocolator heating packs, ice, and Cold Laser therapy. These forms of therapy are designed to provide pain relief, ease muscle tension and spasm, and aid in tissue healing. Each of the different modalities has its own physiological effect on the body, and therefore the type of modality used depends on the nature of your condition. Chiropractors are trained to safely and effectively administer these physiotherapy modalities.
Massage Therapy
The Boise Spine Center has two rooms dedicated to massage therapy. We currently have three massage therapists who are experienced and formally trained. They work closely with the chiropractic physicians to help provide longer sessions of soft tissue therapy when needed. Please inquire about the various types of massages that are offered at the Boise Spine Center.
Custom Orthotics
Orthotics Therapy is the science of employing mechanical devices (shoe inserts) to proactively support your foot and to treat ailments that have resulted from misalignment. Orthotics are a tested, proven way to stabilize your feet, to relieve pressure, and to restore proper biomechanical function of the body. At the Boise Spine Center, we use PedAlign technology, the only infrared optical scanning system that uses true foot contours and arch height measurements in order to produce a high-quality orthotic.
Orthotics can help ease pain that arises in areas other than just your feet. Often times, knee, hip, and low back pain are a result of improper foot biomechanics. Orthotics can be a very simple yet important treatment strategy for addressing the causes of chronic pain. Call for more information about orthotics with PedAlign technology.
Nutritional Counseling
Nutrition is crucial for optimum health and vitality. If you are interested, we can provide you with assistance in choosing appropriate supplements and general nutritional strategies for optimum health. We offer supplements from several companies, although we primarily recommend products from Melaleuca, Pharmanex, and JUS. Most scientific studies show the importance of taking supplements. We can help guide you in the right direction in terms of the types of supplements and general nutritional strategies that would be best for you. In light of the fact that the majority of health problems Americans face in this day in age are chronic (heart disease, cancer, arthritis, etc.), it is important to take the appropriate steps to prevent early onset of these diseases. The way in which people are best suited to prevent the onset of chronic diseases is through a healthy lifestyle - exercise, stress management, and optimal nutrition. From a nutrition standpoint, experts advocate the consumption of antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules (primarily vitamin E, vitamin C, Beta-carotene, and selenium) that interact with free radicals and terminate the chain reaction that causes aging and several degenerative diseases. There are many other types of supplements you can (and should) consider for certain ailments including glucosamine, Omega 3s, calcium/magnesium, B vitamines, CoQ10, and many more. Please call for specific information regarding supplements, general nutrition, or weight loss programs that are available at our office.
